This site is the primary gateway to departments within, information about, and services offered by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Our website was last redesigned four years ago in the spring of 2007. You can read more about the 2012 redesign here.
Who manages utk.edu?
The university’s “web team” is part of the Creative Communications division of the Office of Communications and Marketing.
Our team is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the university’s main web presence, utk.edu, as well as websites for the Chancellor, the Provost, the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Law, the Office of Research, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and many others.
We design electronic media that serve as vehicles for internal and external university communications, including HTML e-mails and the university’s newsletter and website, Tennessee Today.
We establish and support the university’s primary social media outlets, including YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
We are also responsible for developing and disseminating website templates and web style and identity guidelines for use by campus departments and other units.
In addition to original web design, information architecture, and website development, the web team provides consultation services on best practices for electronic communications and marketing, including social media.
How do I contact the web team?
For all requests related to websites we manage, or to report a broken link or request the addition of a link to utk.edu, please e-mail webteam@utk.edu.
To request our design or consultation services, please submit a project request form by visiting communications.utk.edu.
How can I get my own university-affiliated website?
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) manages and maintains the servers on which most of our campus websites run, including utk.edu.
If you are a current UT faculty member, employee, or student with a NetID, or if you represent a university organization, unit or department, you may request server space and/or a “vanity URL” for your website (e.g. mydepartment.utk.edu) by contacting the OIT help desk at help.utk.edu or 865-974-9900.
If you need help making your new website tell your story, submit a project request or give us a call at 865-974-0765.
The UT system has about 800,000 web pages. In order to index and search this vast collection, UT has adopted a powerful search engine (Google Search Appliance) from Google Inc. The search engine allows for efficient and thorough indexing of web content, databases, and filesystem files. It supports fast and highly sophisticated searching. It is our hope this appliance will become an integral tool in finding and exploiting the information located in UT 's electronic information resources.
From January 2011 - January 2012, we've had approximately 14.7 million visits from 3.6 million unique visitors (that's an average of 40,000 visitors per day).
On the first day of fall semester classes in 2011, also our peak day for visits in 2011, utk.edu had approximately 77,000 visits.
