- Overview of the UTK On-Line Classifieds
- The classified ads listed at this site can be viewed by anyone
in the world, but submissions are only accepted within the
utk.edu domain.
That is, you must be on a machine inside
the domain utk.edu to submit an advertisement.
This service will operate similar to the posting board in the
University Center.
You may use this service to help sell your used textbooks,
buy CDs, find a ride home, etc.
Don't forget that you can use your browser's Find
feature to help you locate information within a category.
- Categories of advertisements
- Advertisements are classified according to
the following six categories:
For sale, Wanted, Ride Board, Lost/Found,
Services, and Other.
The Ride Board should include listings for both rides
wanted and riders needed.
Services should include listings such as
tutoring, typing, and word processing.
When submitting an advertisement you will be prompted with
a selection list similar to the one shown below.
Depending upon which category you select, your submitted advertisement
will be inserted at the top of that section.
Duration of Advertisements
Advertisements for all categories will run for
two weeks from the date of submission.
Once an ad is two weeks old, it will automatically be purged
from the database.
After an advertisement has been purged, you can simply re-submit
your classified ad to have it listed again.
Note: this is unlike the posting board in the University Center
which removes ads on a weekly basis,
Removing or Modifying a Submission
To immediately remove or modify an offensive or errant
listing, please notify the maintainer of this service. His
address and phone number are listed below.
Since entries are removed every two weeks,
this notification should only be used for "emergencies."
Statistics
To help monitor the success of this service, we are
interesting in hearing about positive experiences.
If you have had a positive experience
(e.g. sold an item) please e-mail us at
webmaster@utk.edu.
We may or may not respond back.
Inserting Hypertext links
To help sell or promote a classified advertisement, hyperlinks
can be incorporated into the listing.
For example, if you are trying to sell a car, you may
want to use a hyperlink to provide a picture of it.
Hyperlinks can be inserted by including a regular hypertext
link within the input field Item/Description.
Below is an example.
<a href =
"http://...utk.edu/~username/car-desc.html">Photo</a>
To ensure rapid retrieval off all listings, in-line
images are not allowed directly within a classified ad.
Computing Codes and Policy
We welcome your use of this service, but we ask that you be aware of
the UTK

UT
Conflict of Interest Policy.
