Spring 2013 Honorary Degrees

Commencement is always a special occasion, but this year will be especially memorable because we are awarding honorary degrees to two outstanding Tennesseans—renowned journalist John Seigenthaler and opera singer Mary Costa, known as the voice of Sleeping Beauty.

John Siegenthaler

seigenthalerSeigenthaler will receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree at the College of Law commencement at 5:00 p.m. on May 10.

Mary Costa

costaCosta will receive an Honorary Doctor of Humane and Musical Letters at the College of Arts and Sciences commencement at 9:00 a.m. on May 10.

Both ceremonies will be held in Thompson-Boling Arena, and will be the fifth and sixth honorary degrees UT has awarded. Previous honorary degrees were awarded to Howard H. Baker Jr., Dolly Parton, Al Gore, and Charles O. “Chad” Holliday.
