Dan Cameron Lecture


Prospect.1 New Orleans [P.1], the largest biennial of international contemporary art ever organized in the United States, opened to the public on November 1, 2008 in museums, historic buildings, and found sites throughout New Orleans. Prospect.1 New Orleans has been conceived in the tradition of the great international biennials, and showcases new artistic practices as well as an array of programs benefiting the local community. Over the course of its eleven-week run, Prospect.1 New Orleans will draw international media attention, creative energy, and new economic activity to the city of New Orleans.
 
DAN CAMERON is Founding Director and Chief Curator of Prospect.1 New Orleans, a new international biennial that opened November 2008at multiple sites around the city, and he serves as Director of Visual Arts forthe Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans. Cameron was Senior Curator at theNew Museum from 1995 to 2006, where his exhibitions included survey or new-work exhibitions by Eugenio Dittborn, Carroll Dunham, Teresita Fernandez, William Kentridge, Los Carpinteros, Nalini Malani, Paul McCarthy, Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba, Marcel Odenbach, Pierre et Gilles, Faith Ringgold, DorisSalcedo, Carolee Schneemann, Francesco Vezzoli, David Wojnarowicz, Martin Wong,and Xu Bing. He also serves as Senior Curator for Next Wave Visual Art at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and is a member of the graduate faculty of School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York.
