'Freedom Riders: 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice'


Professor Raymond Arsenault of the University of South Florida will deliver the annual Charles O. Jackson Memorial Lecture at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 9, in the Toyota Room of the Howard Baker Center.  He will speak on "Freedom Riders: 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice."  Professor Arsenault is one of the nation's leading authorities on the Civil Rights movement.  His books include the prize-winning Freedom Riders, which was the basis for the PBS American Experience documentary of the same name, winner of three Emmy Awards.  A brief reception will follow the presentation.  The annual Jackson Lecture is presented by the UT Department of History and sponsored by a fund created to honor the late Charles O. Jackson, an esteemed History Professor and Dean at UT from 1969 to 1997.
