Frederick 'Skip' Burkle, MD, MPH, DTM, FAAP, FACEP from the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative is a renowned physician and scholar who has worked and consulted on many humanitarian crises and large scale international disasters in Africa, Asia, Middle East, and Eastern Europe.  Working with the World Health Organization, USAID, Int'l Red Cross, Int'l Rescue Committee, and several US Presidential administrations, he has become the preeminent authority on complex humanitarian emergencies.  His lecture will address the changing nature of humanitarian crises in our increasingly globalized world and the challenges this posses to disaster relief efforts across many disciplines.  Dr. Burkle currently serves as a Senior Fellow & Scientist at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative; Senior Associate Faculty & Scientist at the Center for Refugee & Disaster Response, Johns Hopkins University; and Senior Policy Fellow at Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
