Syria Awareness Night: Highlighting the humanitarian crisis in the region


On Thursday, October the 25th, Middle Eastern Student Association, Muslim Student Association, and Amnesty International will be presenting Syrian Awareness Night to highlight the humanitarian crisis happening right now and for the past 18 months in the region.

The facts:

- +30,000 Syrians killed in the past year
-200,000 Syrian refugees
-1.5 million Syrians internally displaced

-Find out WHY you should care and WHAT YOU CAN DO to help

Come hear perspectives from:

Tabitha Kapic, President at Medair- a humanitarian relief nongovernmental organization that "brings life-saving relief and rehabilitation in disasters, conflict areas, and other crises by working alongside the most vulnerable." Medair has worked directly extensivelyin providing assistance for the Syrian crisis.

Dr. Jaber Hassan- Originally from Syria, he has participated in a successful medical mission trip to the region in August and witnessed first-hand the need for humanitarian assistance.

Dr. Robert Cunningham- Professor Emeritus of Political Science at UT and representative of the Local Alliance for Middle East Peace who has spent time teaching in Aleppo, Syria and whose research and teaching interests focus on issues related to public administration and the politics of the Middle East.
