The Great American Smokeout - Pedestrian Walkway

The S.E.E. Center will be sponsoring a Great American Smokeout on the Pedestrian Walkway on Thursday, November 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is the 37th year of The Great American Smokeout organized by The American Cancer Society. This event is to encourage smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance to quit smoking that day. By quitting-even for one day-smokers will be taking an important step toward a healthier life, one that can lead to reducing cancer risk. Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US, yet more than 45 million Americans still smoke. However, more than half of those smokers have attempted to quit for at least one day in the past year.  As of 2010, there were also 13.2 million cigar smokers in the U.S. and 2.2 million who smoke tobacco in pipes.

The S.E.E. Center will be handing out Stop Smoking Kits and health brochures during the Smokeout. For more information on quitting smoking or the Great American Smokeout, please call Rosa Thomas at 865-974-5755.
