Walk & Wag Dog Walk

Abby Gibson, 10-yr old who wanted to grow up to be a veterinarian

Abby Gibson was a caring 10-year old little girl that brought joy into every life she touched. She loved her family and friends, including her animal friends. Abby loved to laugh, forever making funny faces and doing silly things to make the people around her laugh. Abby passed away on June 3, 2010 from injuries she sustained in a horseback riding accident.

Abby loved horses and taking care of her four cats and her neighbor's dog, Tyson.  She was constantly telling her friends and family of her plans to attend UT's College of Veterinary Medicine so that she could become a veterinarian and take care of her animal friends.

To embrace Abby's dream, her mother, a UT student, established the Abby Gibson Veterinary Medicine Scholarship Endowment at UTCVM. This scholarship is awarded annually to a UTCVM student who graduated from an East Tennessee high school. The student selected must be passionate about helping animals and demonstrate a history of commitment to the veterinary profession through volunteer hours. He or she must also plan to specialize in small, large, or mixed animal practice.

Abby's mother's goal is that the Abby Gibson Veterinary Medicine Scholarship Endowment will help others achieve their dreams while remembering Abby. The Walk & Wag Dog Walk is just one event that will help acomplish the goal.
