UT Science Forum - Scientific Misconduct: Is It Getting Worse?
The UT Science Forum, presented by Quest research initiative, offers a weekly lecture on current science, medical, or technology developments. On September 6, 2013, Dr. Neal Stewart, Professor, Racheff Chair of Excellence in Plant Molecular Genetics, will speak on "Scientific Misconduct: Is It Getting Worse?" from 12 noon to 1 p.m.
Research integrity is challenged by sanctionable offenses, namely falsification, fabrication, and plagiarism. Is the situation getting worse? Apparently so, judging by the number of cases going to the US Office of Research Integrity and the number of retractions in journals. What can scientists (and mentors of scientists) do? Stewart has published a book on the subject titled Research Ethics for Scientists: A Companion for Students.
The Science Forum is free and open to the public.
Location: Thompson-Boling Arena Dining room C-D. Bring your lunch or purchase it from the Arena.
