Legends Lecture Series: John Singleton

The Legend's Lecture series hopes to honor and raise public awareness of the accomplishments of an African-American who has, in some way, positively shaped African-American culture in their lifetime. The Legend's Lecture Series was inaugurated in 2005, making this our 9th Annual Legend's Lecture Event. This year's event will feature producer, director, and screenwriter John Singleton. Mr. Singleton has helped to create some of the more prominent and esteemed black films in the past decade. He exploded onto the screen with his first film, Boyz 'N the Hood, a tough, intelligent, plain-speaking look at friends in gang-ridden South Central L.A. that earned him Oscar nominations for best original screenplay and best director, becoming the youngest and first African-American filmmaker to do so.
