Professor Lauren Goodlad to Speak about 'The Way We Historicize Now'
On Tuesday, September 10th, the Nineteenth-Century British Research Seminar, sponsored by the UT Humanities Center, will present a talk by Professor Lauren Goodlad from 4-6 pm in the Lindsay Young Auditorium, Room 101 of Hodges Library. Professor Goodlad's talk is titled "The Way We Historicize Now." Goodlad is a Professor of English and the Director of the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is the author of Victorian Literature and the Victorian State: Character and Governance in a Liberal Society (Johns Hopkins, 2003) and coeditor of Goth: Undead Subculture (Duke, 2007); "States of Welfare," a 2011 special issue of Occasion; "Comparative Human Rights," a 2010 special issue of the Journal of Human Rights; and "Victorian Internationalisms," a 2007 special issue of RaVoN. She is currently completing her book, The Victorian Geopolitical Aesthetic: Realism, Sovereignty, and Transnational Experience.
