10th Annual Riggsby Lecture on Medieval Mediterranean History and Culture
The Marco Institute for Medieval and Renaissance Studies invites you to the 10th Annual Riggsby Lecture on Medieval Mediterranean History and Culture. This year's lecture will take place on the UTK campus, Thursday, November 7, at 6 PM in the Lindsay Young Auditorium of Hodges Library.
Professor Catherine Brown (University of Michigan) will present "Traveling Hands: Mobile Manuscript in the Early Medieval Mediterranean".
A specialist in early medieval Iberian visual and textual cultures and medieval Iberian Romance and Latin literatures, Dr. Brown is the author of Contrary Things: Exegesis, Dialectic, and the Poetics of Didacticism (Stanford University Press, 1998). Her articles have appeared in numerous journals, including Exemplaria, Word and Image, postmedieval, Modern Philology and Romance Philology.
Her current book project, Remember the Hand: Bodies and Bookmaking in Early Medieval Spain, explores the self-representation of scribal activity in illuminated manuscripts produced in the Mozarabic communities of the Iberian peninsula in the 10th and 11th centuries.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Email marco@utk.edu or call (865) 974-1859 for further information.
