Lecture: Excavations at 'Ayn Gharandal, Jordan, Dr. Erin Darby and Dr. Robert Darby
The East Tennessee Society of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) and the McClung Museum present Dr. Erin Darby (Religious Studies, University of Tennessee, Knoxville) and Dr. Robert Darby (Art History, University of Tennessee, Knoxville) lecturing about their recent archaeological excavations at 'Ayn Gharandal, Jordan.
Erin Darby and Robert Darby are co-directors of the 'Ayn Gharandal Archaeological Project in southern Jordan, and run an archaeological field school there during the summer months. Recent finds at the site include a Roman fort, bathhouse, and aqueduct system. They are probably from the late Roman or Byzantine period-roughly between the third and sixth centuries C.E.
Erin Darby's research and teaching interests include topics in Biblical Studies, Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Archaeology, Anthropology, Art History, Judaic Studies, Ritual Studies, and Gender Studies. Robert Darby's research areas include Roman baths, iconography and Roman provincial art particularly that of the Roman Near East.
