The East Tennessee Society of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) and the McClung Museum present the Seventh Rutledge Archaeology Lecture, with Dr. Anastasia Papathanasiou of the Greek Archaeological Service speaking on "The Neolithic Alepotrypa Cave: Past Findings and Present Research."

The Alepotrypa Cave is an important Neolithic site located in southern Greece, which settlers used between 5,000 and 8,000 years ago as a shelter, a cemetery, and a sacred worship place.

Papathanasiou received her PhD in Physical Anthropology from the University of Iowa in 1999. Her research interests include paleopathology, diet reconstruction, and mortuary archaeology. She has studied Neolithic and Bronze Age sites in Greece, with a focus on human osteological remains and carbon and nitrogen stable isotope analysis.
