Dr. Nghia Chem, Licensing Associate with UT Research Foundation, will present "What is Your Big Idea? Technology Transfer from Inventions to Innovations."

Universities continue to focus on generating economic returns from their innovations. In this presentation, Dr. Nghia Chiem of the University of Tennessee Research Foundation (UTRF) discusses successful approaches to licensing created at the University of Tennessee. The discussion will focus on the legal basics, policy and practices, startup licensing, and traditional commercial licensing.

Dr. Chiem is a licensing associate in the Knoxville office, where he focuses on the commercialization of technologies developed from inventors of the Institute of Agriculture, Chemistry, and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. He has more than ten years of experience working in biotechnology and start-up companies. Prior to joining UTRF, Dr. Chiem served as a senior scientist for Protein Discovery, a Knoxville-based life sciences company with a focus on commercializing sample preparation technologies for the mass-spectrometry market. He also previously was a senior application scientist at Coventor and a cofounder of a spin-off company.
