Mathematics Colloquium: Maxwell Equations at Ayres Hall

Friday, 08 November, 2013

SPEAKER:  Prof. Jean-Luc Guermond, Texas A&M

TITLE:  Maxwell equations and magneto-hydrodynamics in heterogeneous domains

using continuous finite elements.

ABSTRACT: The systems of equations magneto-hydrodynamics is recalled and various applications are reviewed. The rest of the talk will focus on the presentation and the analysis of a continuous finite element technique. The convergence analysis is done assuming only minimal regularity in Lipschitz domains. The method is shown to converge for any polynomial degrees and is spectrally correct. The method will be illustrated numerically on various applications.
