Tuesday, 19 November, 2013

Event Information

The UT Department of Geography seeks to advertise and promote "Geography Awareness Week." Members of the department will host an information booth on Pedestrian Walkway about Geography Awareness Week. Displays at this booth will include: tree cookies, tree/soil cores, videos of geographers' interviews , and maps made in Cartography classes.

Background Information

Geography Awareness Week, a nationally recognized set of events was engineered and created by National Geographic nearly 30 years ago. National Geographic held the preconceived desire to implement various educational events and activities lasting a full week that would not only bring in interest from young Americans who are curious about their role as global citizens but also shed light on geography as a contemporary discipline. Today, Geography Awareness Week has spread out amongst the nation with academic institutes holding the responsibility to advertise and celebrate these great novelty days. Our department in particular will have a stand set up on pedestrian walkway on Tuesday,November 19th, 2013 to advertise Geography Awareness Week and the personal specifications that make up our department.
