The fortieth annual meeting of the Southeastern American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies will take place this week, February 27 through March 1, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Knoxville.
This regional conference of specialists in eighteenth-century studies features talks on the architecture, history, and literature of the period, with plenary sessions by Heather McPherson, Professor of Art History at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and by Srinivas Aravamudan, Professor of English and Dean of the Humanities at Duke University.
This year's conference features the first annual awarding of the society's Undergraduate Teaching Prize. This year the $1,200 prize will be presented to Emily Friedman of Auburn University, who will be bringing five undergraduate students to present their research at the conference.
