Biology by Numbers: Bringing Math to the High School Biology Classroom

Hey high school biology teachers -- got math? Join us for a workshop focused on getting comfortable with the quantitative side of biology. New teachers, pre-service teachers, and veteran teachers all welcome!

The program will feature hands-on experience with inquiry activities that use real data, tools for graphing, modeling, and much more. The University of Tennessee's popular Biology in a Box will supply some of the activities integrating math and science. Work collaboratively to add or enrich the quantitative aspects of your favorite biology lab.

The workshop will be led by the BioQUEST Curriculum Consortium, a 25-year biology education reform community that focuses on helping faculty develop and implement innovative curricula. It will be hosted by NIMBioS, a national math and biology institute located at the University of Tennessee.

Application: There is a $100 registration fee for attending this workshop, payable to BioQUEST upon acceptance.

Application deadline: June 6, 2014

Participation in this event is by application only. High school teachers with a strong interest in the topic are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will be notified after the deadline. If needed, financial support for travel and lodging is available for attendees. Most meals are included.
