Human Animal Bond in Tennessee (HABIT), one of the countrys oldest animal-assisted therapy programs, and Swofford Financial will host Barbeque, Bidding and Bluegrass: An Evening of Good Behavior with HABIT. HABIT is a non-profit outreach program of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine (UTCVM). The fundraiser will take place at the Knoxville Museum of Art (KMA) Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Dr. Julie Albright, PetSafe Chair in Small Animal Behavioral Research at the veterinary college, will lead a discussion on what makes a good therapy animal and then take questions from the audience.
Guests can also participate in a spirited live and silent auction as they enjoy a barbeque dinner and Bluegrass music from The Grassroots Gringos, a band that has been featured on WDVX's Blue Plate Special.
From 4:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. guests can enjoy a complimentary tour of the museum, begin bidding on the silent auction items, and meet several HABIT volunteers and their dogs on the KMA lawn.
Each year 250 HABIT volunteers and their animals make more than 200,000 contacts in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, various units at Childrens Hospital, schools and drug recovery programs.
A $35 donation per guest at the door is requested. For more information about the event or to RSVP, call (865) 974-5633 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Visit http://www.vet.utk.edu/habit to learn more about the outreach program.
