There’s still Time to Make a Difference!

As you wrap up your year-end charitable giving, please take a moment and consider the University of Tennessee. Your gift to the university—regardless of the amount—is important! Just imagine what an impact it could make if every UTK alumna and alumnus, friend, fan or family member contributed $20 or more to the university. It could make a significant impact on the resources available to support our students and programs.

We make it easy for you to give this year. The university’s development office will be open during designated hours over the holiday break and can be reached at 865-974-2115. In addition, you can give on-line by visiting http://giveto.utk.edu/ .

To help you plan ahead, here are a few tips to keep in mind for your 2009 year-end charitable giving:

• IRS deadlines require that gifts made by credit card must be processed with the bank before the close of business on Thursday, December 31; please call the UT development office by 3:00 p.m. local time to be sure your gift is credited in 2009.
• Stock, check or other gifts sent by U.S. Mail must bear a 2009 postmark in order to be counted as part of your 2009 charitable contributions.
• Electronic transfers of stock or other securities and cash must be completed on or before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31 in order to receive calendar 2009 tax credit. Please be aware that electronic transfers generally take at least 24 hours—and often longer.
