As part of UT Knoxville's effort to reduce energy consumption by 10 percent this fiscal year, and thereby save at least $2 million, a new energy conservation policy is going into effect that changes temperatures in the majority of buildings on the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Agricultural campuses.
During normal occupied hours, the target indoor air temperature will be 68 degrees Fahrenheit for heating and 76 degrees Fahrenheit for cooling.
While your office may be cooler this winter, that doesn't mean that you have to be colder.
1) Keep a Sweater or Jacket at Your Desk. If you often feel chilly at your desk, you may want to keep a sweater or jacket at your desk.
2) Take Advantage of the Sun. If your work area or residence hall room has windows, open the blinds and take advantage of the power of solar heating — when the sun shines through your window it will help heat your office.
3) Think About Layers. Your day may take you from warmer to cooler areas as you cross campus. Dress in layers to compensate for changes in temperature.
