On the Virginia Tech Shootings

Statement from UT Chancellor Loren Crabtree Regarding Virginia Tech Shootings

Today, like many of you, I was shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life at Virginia Tech. The thoughts and prayers of the entire UT community are with our colleagues at this most troubling time.

This enormous loss, and the suddenness of it, reminds us all of the critical importance of our safety and security efforts - and the real need for us all to care for one another.

We have been closely monitoring this tragic situation from its onset this morning. Of course, we stand ready to assist our colleagues in any way possible at this time of tragedy. While we are not at any heightened state of alert on our campus at this time, we do remind all members of our campus community to be familiar with safety procedures in their departments, residence halls and classes. Safety information is available online at http://pr.utk.edu/safety.

In the coming days, this tragedy will become even more poignant as we learn of the loss of so many lives. This is indeed a great national tragedy and we join our colleagues across the nation in extending our thoughts and prayers to all of those affected by today's senseless attacks at Virginia Tech.
