Terry Hazen, an environmental biologist specializing in bioremediation and bioenergy, has been appointed the Governor's Chair for environmental biotechnology. Hazen's research focuses on how naturally occurring bacteria can sometimes break down and detoxify hazardous materials. Hazen holds a joint appointment with the College of Engineering's Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and the College of Arts and Sciences' departments of Microbiology and Earth and Planetary Sciences. He also works closely with the UT-ORNL Joint Institute for Biological Sciences and the Center for Environmental Biotechnology.
