UT Notifies Campus Community of State Increase in Fines for Parking Illegally in Handicapped Spots
Effective July 1, the penalty for parking illegally in a handicapped spot will increase from $150 to $200 with no waivers or appeals allowed. These changes were approved by the Tennessee Legislature during its recent session.

Strayhorn Named to Thurgood Marshall College Fund Committee
Terrell Lamont Strayhorn, assistant professor of higher education and special assistant to the provost at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been appointed to the national research advisory committee for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund within the United Negro College Fund.

UT Ceremony Honors Joe Johnson, John Ward
Two University of Tennessee icons were honored Tuesday at a ceremony in the heart of the Knoxville campus. President Emeritus Joe Johnson and former UT athletics broadcaster John Ward attended the unveiling of a permanent brick marker naming a major campus thoroughfare for them.

Tennessee Governor's Academy Names 2008-2009 Class
The Tennessee Governor's Academy for Mathematics and Science has named its incoming class for the 2008-09 academic year. The 33 high school juniors are only the second class of students selected to take part in the academy, managed by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, which recently completed its inaugural year.

Gardial Named UT Knoxville Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs
Sarah Fisher Gardial has been named vice provost for faculty affairs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Interim Chancellor Jan Simek announced today. Gardial, currently associate dean for academic programs for the College of Business Administration, will take over for Susan Martin, who will become interim provost on Aug. 1.

UT Board Passes Budget and Increases Tuition by Six Percent
The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees today passed a $1.65 billion budget for fiscal year 2009 and increased undergraduate tuition rates at each campus by 6 percent. At its annual meeting held in Knoxville, trustees heard a report from UT President John Petersen about plans going forward to address state appropriation shortfalls while advancing the university's strategic initiatives. ![]()
