Math

The courses in the list below are representative of the types of courses that might benefit an incoming freshman. Specific courses may be unavailable during the term for which you are registering. As always, registration for courses should be determined in consultation with your advisor.

 

Placement Information

Math 113, 115, and 119 do not have any prerequisite or placement restrictions. Any student with any test score can take them.

Math 123 and 125 require either Math 119 or 130, a Math ACT score of 25 or higher, or a Math SAT score of 620 or higher. Students with lower scores can bypass Math 119 by passing the Level 3 Math Placement Test.

Math 113 - Mathematical Reasoning

Classical and modern topics in number theory, logic, geometry, and probability with emphasis on problem solving. Consumer mathematics and other real-world applications.

Satisfies General Education Requirement: (QR)

 

Math 115 - Statistical Reasoning

An introduction to probability and statistics without calculus.

Satisfies General Education Requirement: (QR)

Credit Restriction: Not available for credit to students in the College of Business Administration.

 

Math 119 - College Algebra

A review of algebraic functions, equations, and inequalities for students who satisfy the course prerequisites for 123 or 125 but whose placement test scores indicated additional preparation is necessary.

Credit Restriction: Students who receive a grade of C or better in any course numbered 123 or higher (except for 201 or 202) may not subsequently receive credit for 119.

Comment(s): Satisfactory placement test score required. This course should not be taken to remove an entrance requirement.

 

MATH 123 - Finite Mathematics

For students not planning to major in the physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, or computer science. Exponential and logarithmic functions, interest and annuities, linear systems and matrices, optimization.

Satisfies General Education Requirement: (QR)
(RE) Prerequisite(s): 119 or 130 or 125 or 141 or 147.

 

Math 125 - Basic Calculus

For students not planning to major in the physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, or computer science. Calculus of algebraic, exponential, and logarithmic functions, with applications.

Satisfies General Education Requirement: (QR)

Credit Restriction: Students who receive a grade of C or better in 141, 147, or 152 may not subsequently receive credit for 125.

(RE) Prerequisite(s): 119 or 130 or 123.
