KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The American Association of University Professors chapter at the University of Tennessee has received a national award.

The UT-Knoxville AAUP won the 1991 Beatrice G. Konheim Award for outstanding chapter achievement.

The UT organization was cited for its efforts to improve campus security, its mentoring program, and its role in the selection of a successor to former UT President Lamar Alexander.

The chapter was active in bringing about an agreement between UT and the city to use Knoxville police to investigate felony crimes committed on campus, said Dr. Dick Penner, an English professor and AAUP chapter president.

Penner and Dr. Robert Glenn, state conference president and a UT associate professor of speech communication, accepted the $1,000 award at the group’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
