UT Hires New Engineering Department Head

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Two engineering departments being reorganized into one will have a new head Jan. 1, UT-Knoxville engineering dean Jerry Stoneking announced Tuesday.

Dr. Don Dareing, head of mechanical engineering at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, has been named head of the new department of mechanical and aerospace engineering and engineering science.

Stoneking said consolidation of the two departments will be more efficient.

“We are pleased to have Don Dareing as part of our team to build upon the college’s outstanding accomplishments and contribute to the establishment and success of this new department,” Stoneking said.

Dareing earned two mechanical engineering degrees at Oklahoma State University and his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois.

Dareing has taught at the University of Florida and the University of Arkansas. He holds several patents for engineering systems.
