KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — General Shale Products Corp. is supporting architecture programs with a commitment to the University of Tennessee-Knoxville’s 21st Century Campaign.

The Kingsport-based company’s gift will fund a lecture series over the next five years, double the firm’s annual support of architecture scholarships and support joint efforts of the School of Architecture with the Kingsport Regional Interactive Design Studio.

The amount of the gift was not disclosed.

“We are pleased to have this opportunity to support the School of Architecture in the future and continue to build the relationship that has been so mutually beneficial between our company and the university,” said Richard Green, General Shale president and chief executive officer.

Marleen Davis, dean of architecture and planning, said the school and General Shale have a long-standing partnership. She said the company’s support of the Kingsport design studio helps the community and UT-Knoxville students.

“This endeavor is dedicated to assisting the region in exploring its architectural and planning heritage. At the same time, our students will have an enhanced educational experience.”

UT’s 21st Century Campaign has a goal of $250 million. UT-Knoxville seeks to raise $130 million of that total.
