UT Professor Honored By AAAS (120)
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — You might say the professor who studies how snakes communicate and hunt their prey is a “fellow” well met.
Dr. Gordon Burghardt, a University of Tennessee-Knoxville professor of psychology and zoology, has been named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Burghardt is one of 238 scientists honored this year for helping advance and foster social applications of science. He will be honored Feb. 15 at the 1997 AAAS annual meeting in Seattle.
Burghardt, who specializes in research on snakes and reptiles, came to UT-Knoxville in 1968.
The AAAS, which publishes the weekly journal Science, was founded in 1848. It has 144,000 members and is the world’s largest scientist organization.
