UT Hosts Statewide, High School Science Contest (160)

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee high school students will win scholarships and compete for a trip to London in a contest sponsored by the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and the U.S. Army and Navy.

 The 32nd annual Tennessee Junior Science and Humanities Symposium will be held March 6-8 at UT-Knoxville and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

 Dr. Phyllis Huff, UT education professor, said the student who presents the best research paper or scientific experiment proposal will receive a $4,000 scholarship and an additional $750 for attending UT. Second place winner will receive a $750 scholarship to UT.

 The winning student’s teacher will receive money to buy classroom school supplies, Huff said.

The state’s five finalists earn a trip to the symposium’s national meeting and compete against students from other states for more scholarship money and a trip to London.

Entries are due Feb. 1, 1997.
