KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Dr. Leonard Brinkman, geography professor, recently received the 1997 Outstanding Service Award from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville Library Friends.

Brinkman was honored for decades of service to the UT-Knoxville libraries including his work inventorying maps, developing a map catalogue system, filling gaps in the map collection, and even painting surplus storage cabinets for the collection.

Dr. Carol Harden, head of the department of geography, praised Brinkman’s role as the department’s representative to the library for 16 years.

”He has done an exemplary job of making sure that the libraries’ collections support the teaching and research needs of the geography faculty,” Harden said.

Brinkman supervised the Map Library, now a branch of University Libraries, from 1980 to 1989.
