KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A University of Tennessee-Knoxville graduate student has been named the region’s top transportation student.

 Jason Gregory, a civil engineering major from Memphis, has won the Southeastern Transportation Center Outstanding Student Award, which honors academic achievement in transportation.

“Jason’s work is of the highest quality,” Dr. Fred Wegmann, a UT-Knoxville civil engineering professor, said. “He has demonstrated outstanding capability, initiative, leadership, and promise for future contributions in the transportation field.”

 Gregory came to UT-Knoxville in 1996 after earning a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Memphis. He is set to receive the master’s degree May 15.

 Gregory served as president of UT-Knoxville student chapters of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America. He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and Recipient of the 1996 T.S. Wu Design Award from the University of Memphis.

 The Southeastern Transportation Center is the U.S. Department of Transportation’s regional center for Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee.
