KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Special projects and professional activities of University of Tennessee-Knoxville’s communications students will be funded by the gift of a Florida couple to the school of journalism.

The Karen and Frederick Buchsbaum Fund will support travel to conferences of the Public Relations Society of America and the Society of Professional Journalists, Dr. James A. Crook, director of UT-Knoxville’s journalism school, said.

The Buchsbaums’ gift also will be used for in-residence visits to campus by journalism and public relations leaders, Crook said. The Buchsbaums are residents of Coral Gables, and Karen is a 1975 UT-Knoxville journalism graduate.

Karen Buchsbaum has her own public relations consulting firm in Coral Gables, and her husband is president of FJB & Associates, a healthcare reimbursement company.

The Knoxville Chapter of PRSA and the Sammie Lynn Puett Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America will observe their 25th anniversaries in September.
