UTSI Inducts Distinguished Alumni (130)
TULLAHOMA, Tenn. — Dr. James Trolinger and Dr. Wheeler “Mac” McGregor have been inducted into the University of Tennessee Space Institute’s alumni hall of fame.
They are the institute’s 20th and 21st Distinguished Alumni, Dr. Dwayne McCay, UTSI vice president, said.
Trolinger, a McMinnville native, is a pioneer in holography. He earned the doctorate in physics from the institute in 1967.
McGregor is internationally known for his work on rocket plume visibility, McCay said. He received the master’s in 1961 and the Ph.D. in physics in 1969.
“We have a backlog of folks under consideration for this honor,” McCay said, “but we couldn’t wait any longer to honor these two.”
Trolinger is co-founder and director of research for MetroLaser, Irvine, Calif. McGregor recently retired from Arnold Engineering Development Center here.
