Knoxville — A nationwide study of college freshmen reports many of them were often bored by their last year of classes in high school.

The 34th annual American Freshman survey was conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute in Los Angeles.

But the dean of the University of Tennessee admissions office said high school students that contact UT are encouraged to take challenging classes.

“In our new admissions standards, we are emphasizing the rigor of the high school curriculum,” said Richard Bayer. “What that means is the high school senior needs to continue taking math and science, right up until they graduate.”

The study said many students were often late to class or skipped them.
