“The University of Tennessee has been notified by Southeastern Conference Commissioner Roy Kramer that it has met its institutional responsibility to review and report all relevant information concerning alleged NCAA violations raised more than two years ago.

“Over those two years, the Office of the Provost, the University’s NCAA faculty representative and the

Dr. Loren Crabtree

Office of the General Counsel have thoroughly examined the documents on which the allegations were based and have answered all questions from the NCAA and the Southeastern Conference.

“All of this information was provided to the NCAA in a series of reports in 2000. In response to further inquiries, UT officials also met with NCAA representatives in June 2001. On July 10, 2001, in a statement from Dr. Anne Mayhew, the faculty representative, the University announced the NCAA’s decision to discontinue its inquiry.

“The Provost’s Office, the faculty representative, the Faculty Senate Athletics Committee and the University’s athletics directors subsequently made several recommendations which are now in place to improve academic support services provided to athletes and to assure the integrity of our academic programs and procedures. I have reviewed these procedures and am confident that they are working well.

“We continue to work to improve the academic experience of all students who are enrolled at UT in Knoxville.”
