KNOXVILLE – The University of Tennessee Cultural Attractions Committee will present the Grammy award-winning South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at the Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

The event is part of UT’s Africa Semester and is supported by the Central Program Council.

Acclaimed internationally, Ladysmith Black Mambazo is a rhythmic a cappella group from Ladysmith, South Africa. The 10-man group has recorded with numerous artists such as Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton and Ben Harper. The group won the 1987 Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album.

“The group has performed with tons of big acts, and the Cultural Attraction Committee felt like it would be a good concert for students, faculty, staff and the community,” said Ron Laffitte, director of student activities.

Tickets for the concert cost $5 for students, $15 for faculty and staff, and $20 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased from Tickets Unlimited and the UT Central Ticket Office located on the first floor of the University Center.

“It is rare that a group like this comes through East Tennessee. It is a great opportunity for everyone to hear and see one of Africa’s finest a cappella groups,” said Laffitte.
