African Author to Speak At UT
KNOXVILLE — Thérèse Kuoh-Moukoury, an author and journalist from Cameroon, will present a lecture on women in French-speaking areas of Africa at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the University of Tennessee’s Black Cultural Center.
Regarded as one of the first novelists from the Sub-Saharan Francophone region of Africa, Kuoh-Moukoury is the author of “Rencontres Essentielles,” a novel about a woman and a country gaining independence in Africa.
Aside from writing novels, poems, short stories, and journal articles, she serves as the president of the Union of African and Malagasy Women.
There will be a reception following the lecture. Admission is free and open to the public.
The lecture is sponsored by the Africa Semester Steering Committee, the Center for International Education, the College of Arts and Sciences’ Office of Academic Outreach, and the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures.
