traditions. He will sign books at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at the UT Book Store and perform a jazz concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

The performance is sponsored by the Cultural Attractions Committee.

McBride’s Torch Night presentation will address his critically acclaimed novel and other topics.

Torch Night, sponsored by the offices of the chancellor and vice president for academic affairs, is an annual ceremony that focuses on the UT tradition of passing the flame of the Volunteer spirit and excellence from the senior class to the freshman class.

McBride and his four-piece R&B-jazz band will perform selections from his new CD-documentary project “The Process.”

“McBride is a tremendous jazz performer and this event is a great opportunity for students,” said Ron Laffitte, director of student activities.

Concert admission is $5 for students, $15 for faculty and staff, and $20 for general admission. Tickets, which go on sale September 8, may be purchased from Tickets Unlimited or the UT Central Ticket Office, located on the first floor of the University Center.
