UT to Host Minority Law School Admission Workshop
KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee College of Law will host a Minority Law School Admission Workshop from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the UT College of Law, 1505 W. Cumberland Ave., Knoxville.
The workshop will inform members of minority groups about the law school admission process and is designed for college graduates, college students, college-bound high school students, pre-law and minority affairs advisors, high school guidance counselors, and principals from across East Tennessee.
The workshop, part of National Minority Law Recruitment Month, is sponsored by the Law School Admission Council, the UT College of Law, the UT Arts & Sciences Advising Services, and the Knoxville Bar Association.
Dr. Karen Britton, the college’s director of admissions and career services, said that these joint outreach efforts are part of the college’s success in minority recruitment.
Britton said the college’s minority enrollment has increased steadily since the mid 1990s. About 14 percent of the college’s 480 students are minorities, she said.
Workshop sessions will focus on the law school admission process, how to finance a legal education, and preparation for law school as an undergraduate. A panel of current minority law students will discuss their law school experience, and local minority attorneys will discuss their careers in law.
Participation is free but pre-registration is requested through the UT College of Law Admissions Office at (865) 974-4131. Free parking will be available in the faculty-staff section of the UT parking garage at 16th and White Avenue, one block west of the College of Law.
