KNOXVILLE–Zim Ngqawana, a South African musician who was an artist-in-residence at the University of Tennessee during UT’s Africa semester last spring, returns to campus to perform with the UT Jazz Faculty Ensemble at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, in the Alumni Memorial Building on the University of Tennessee campus.

The program will feature Ngqawana’s original compositions. An accomplished composer, arranger, saxophonist and flutist, he has released four albums and has toured throughout the United States, Africa and Europe. Ngqawana performed at the historic inauguration of President Nelson Mandela in 1994.

The UT Jazz Faculty Ensemble includes Mark Boling on guitar and guitar synthesizer; Donald Brown on piano; Keith Brown on drums; and Rusty Holloway on bass.

The concert is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the University of Tennessee School of Music and the University of Tennessee Africa Semester Committee.
