UT Engineering Alum Gives $1 Million “Challenge” Gift
KNOXVILLE — University of Tennessee alumnus Ronald Nutt has given a $1 million gift to the UT College of Engineering.

Nutt, president of Knoxville-based CTI Molecular Imaging, said in making the gift he challenges other UT engineering graduates and friends of the college to join him in giving back some of the rewards they have received through their UT association.
This is the second million-dollar gift Nutt has made to the university. In 2003, he pledged $1 million to the UT Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville for a cancer research facility. The gift was contingent on matching funds from the National Institute of Health.
“We are deeply grateful to Dr. Nutt and his family for their ongoing generosity,” said Dr. Way Kuo, dean of engineering.
“The support of our alumni and donors is invaluable in helping us to achieve our new goals in recruitment, research and academics.”
Nutt received bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from UT. Both of his children, Robert Nutt and Rhonda Goble, have received electrical engineering degrees from UT.
In 1998, Nutt and his wife, Robbie, gave $100,000 to establish the Randall Keith Nutt Engineering Scholarship Endowment, named in honor of their son who died during his freshman year as a UT electrical engineering student.
Since that time, 18 students have been named Randall Nutt Scholars and have been awarded more than $108,000 in scholarship funds.
Nutt and fellow UT alumni established CTI in 1983. The company develops and markets positron emission tomography (PET) imaging equipment and services.
