The national award is given to those who demonstrate a commitment to strengthening the disability rights movement.

Muir conducted a study that identified a nationwide lack of collaboration between disability services and career services offices on college campuses.

Based on his research, Muir attained funding from the Tennessee Division of Rehabilitation Services to create the Disability Careers Office, which is a liaison office between UT career services and disability services.

Muir also co-founded Career Opportunities for Students with Disabilities (COSD).

He currently serves full-time as executive director of COSD in Knoxville, working
toward closer ties between career services, disability services and employers nationally.

Under his guidance and leadership, COSD has expanded its membership to 400
agencies. He has successfully organized and found funding for annual COSD conferences.

“Being a Paul G. Hearne/AAPD Leadership Award recipient will lend increased credibility to my work at COSD,” said Muir.

Recipients are awarded $10,000 to further their work in the disability community.

Awards will be presented March 9 in Washington, D.C. at the fourth annual AAPD Leadership Gala.
