UT History Expert’s Book Wins Warren Dean Prize
KNOXVILLE — Todd A. Diacon, head of the University of Tennessee’s history department, has been honored for writing the best book on Brazilian history published in 2003-04.
Diacon’s book, “Stringing Together a Nation: Candido Mariano da Silva Rondon and the Construction of a Modern Brazil, 1906-1939,” received the Warren Dean Prize, awarded every other year by the Conference on Latin American History, an affiliate of the American Historical Association.
The prize carries a $500 stipend and will be awarded at a luncheon on Jan. 6, 2006, at the annual meeting of the American Historical Association in Philadelphia.
Research funding for this book was provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities, a Fulbright Foundation Fellowship and by the University of Tennessee Thomas Jefferson Prize.
