Noted Author and Feminist to Speak at UT April 5
KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee will host author bell hooks at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Carolyn P. Brown Memorial University Center Auditorium. The lecture presentation, “Ending Domination” is free and open to the public.
hooks — who uses lowercase letters to emphasize her writing rather than her name — is an author, educator, feminist and human rights advocate who has written more than 30 books, including “Ain’t I a woman? Black women and feminism.”
As a feminist social critic, hooks is best known for her critique of and strategy against what she terms, “white supremacist capitalist patriarchy.” A frequent lecturer around the world, she currently serves as a Distinguished Professor in Residence at Berea College in Kentucky.
A book signing and reception will immediately follow in the Carolyn P. Brown University Center Ballroom. Doors open at 6 p.m.
