Riedinger Named UT Interim Vice Chancellor For Research
KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee has named Lee L. Riedinger as its interim vice chancellor for research.
Dr. Lee Riedinger Riedinger, currently the associate laboratory director for university partnerships at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), will begin in his role September 1.
“Lee has a long and distinguished career in scholarship and service at the University of Tennessee, and his understanding of the UT-ORNL partnership will be critical as we make the transition to a new vice chancellor,” said UT Chancellor Loren Crabtree.
Riedinger is a former associate vice chancellor for research at UT, a position he held from 1991 to 1995. He also served as the head of UT’s department of physics and astronomy from 1996 to 2000.
In his role at ORNL, Riedinger has overseen the growth and development of the lab’s university partnerships and joint institute programs. He has twice earned national recognition from the U.S. Department of Energy for his work with minority education and historically black colleges and universities.
As the interim vice chancellor for research, Riedinger will oversee the research operations on UT’s Knoxville campus. He’ll also continue to work closely with ORNL through the UT-ORNL partnership.
A search committee for the vice chancellor for research position is expected to be named by Crabtree shortly.
