KNOXVILLE — Bassist Edgar Meyer and mandolin player Chris Thile will perform Jan. 30 at the University of Tennessee’s Alumni Memorial Building Cox Auditorium. Presented by the Cultural Attractions Committee as a part of its 2006-07 Series, the duo creates a diverse program of original music.

Prominently established as a unique instrumentalist, Meyer is both a performer and composer. As a solo classical bassist, Meyer has released a concert album with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra featuring Bottesini’s “Gran Duo” with Joshua Bell; an album featuring Meyer’s “Double Concerto for Bass and Cello” with Yo-Yo Ma; and an acclaimed album of Bach’s “Unaccompanied Suites for Cello.”

In addition to solo work, collaborations are the cornerstone of Meyer’s work and he has joined forces with Béla Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Mark O’Connor, and Mike Marshall. Most recently, Meyer had paired up with mandolin player Chris Thile of the popular “newgrass” band Nickel Creek.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.knoxvilletickets.com or the night of the show.

The Cultural Attractions Committee is a component of the Central Program Council, which represents seven committees under UT’s Office of Student Activities. The CAC provides culturally diverse programming on music and dance genres to UT and the Knoxville community.
