KNOXVILLE — Slovenia, situated at the head of the Adriatic Sea, and once the leading industrialized province of the old Yugoslavia, is the wealthiest of the 12 new members of the European Union.

Samuel Žbogar, Slovenian ambassador to the U.S., will speak April 2 at the University of Tennessee, at breakfast sponsored by the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy. The event, which begins at 7:30 a.m., will be held at the UT Visitors Center, near the corner of Neyland Drive and Kingston Pike.

Žbogar will discuss his country’s recent experience with its successful application to join the European Union. Obtaining membership in the EU can impact a country’s system of banking, real estate, business, education, health care and more.
